Columbiana Middle School Update – 3/17/2020

Good morning CMS.  Happy St. Patrick’s Day!  We certainly miss seeing our students every day.

A district update was sent out yesterday which created confusion for some based on dates listed.  There has been no change in the CMS plan regarding dates and makeup work.  Our plan for CMS students is still as follows: 

Monday 3/16 – Teacher in-service day.  No students.  No new work for students 3/17-3/20 – Calamity days.  No new work for students. (Students may work ahead if completed 3rd grading period requirements). 3/19 – Last day for students to submit work for 3rd grading period 3/23 – 3/27 – Blizzard Bags/Remote Learning Opportunities.

CMS teachers have been asked to focus the remainder of this week on missing assignments for the 3rd grading period and to reach out to parents and students where needed to ensure that assignments are submitted.  This Thursday, March 19th, is the last day for students to submit work for the 3rd grading period.  Please submit electronically as soon as possible.  If there is work that needs to be dropped off, the office will be open today through Thursday 8:00-2:00.

Our staff has worked hard to ensure that we have authentic learning opportunities for our students.  As of this morning, 3/17/2020, all staff should have a week worth of assignments posted with due dates.  These are to be done by students during the week of 3/23, but students can certainly work ahead.  Some teachers may have provided assignments for two or more weeks.  Please, do not let this overwhelm you.  Simply take one day at a time and ask for help as needed.

Teachers have created hard copy packets for students who indicated no access to the Internet or a device.  These packets are in bins in the front entrance of CMS ready for pickup today.  Teachers will prepare additional packets for students, when appropriate, and have them in the front entrance.  Tuesdays will be designated pick-up/drop-off days for students.

Breakfast/Lunch Delivery
As of Monday, March 23rd, we will offer delivery to all students who request through our online form.  Please complete as soon as possible if you are interested in a delivery of breakfast and/or lunch during this extended time off of school.     https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/coexcafe

Pantry
Due to the overwhelming support and donations, we have moved our pantry to the CMS cafeteria.  Our pantry includes food, school supplies and hygiene products.  Please feel free to stop in and take what you need.  We just ask that you need what you take.
