Cross Country

What is Cross County?

Cross Country is a no-contact outdoor sport for athletes from 7th-12th grade.  Athletes participating in cross country are distance runners who are able to compete not only as individuals but also as a team for scoring purposes.  With conditioning and practice anyone can run the distances including athletes that traditionally run sprints during track.  Middle school athletes race 1.75 to 2 mile courses and high school races the 5k distance.  Racing takes place on grass fields, through woods, and sometimes in places such as the Canfield Fairgrounds or local golf courses.

Cross country is a sport that can easily be done while you participate in another fall sport including band!  We compete on Tuesdays and Saturdays during the season with an occasional Wednesday night competition. Cross country is unique in that middle school and high school athletes compete in their own races but on the same day and at the same location.   Athletes not usually competing in fall sports are encouraged to try cross country as it is excellent conditioning for basketball and indoor track season during the winter months.
