The Rotary 4-Way Test Speech Contest challenges high school students to develop and deliver a 5–7 minute speech that analyzes a chosen topic through the lens of Rotary International’s Four-Way Test. Created in 1932, the Four-Way Test promotes ethical decision-making, integrity, and responsible leadership. The contest encourages students to think critically, speak persuasively, and apply ethical reasoning to real-world issues.

Participants select a topic they find meaningful, relevant, or timely and evaluate it using the Four-Way Test’s guiding questions: Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build goodwill and better friendships? Will it be beneficial to all concerned? Through this process, students demonstrate their understanding of ethical standards while strengthening their public speaking skills.

Congratulations to our Columbiana High School four way speech winners.

The Columbiana School District may allow up to 5 “calamity or SNOW days”. Thereafter, for days where student attendance is cancelled, days will be made up beginning with open days or non-holiday days of the calendar. That sequence is as follows: April 2, 3, 6 then May 29, June 1-5, 8-12.

Having reached our 6th and 7th days last week, the Board will consider approving Waiver Days for April 2 & 3 where students will not report. However moving forward , Snow Days with our 8th day (the next school closure) will begin with making up school days with students is April 6th in the sequence.

To our Clipper Community:

It has been brought to our attention that there are lingering concerns regarding the status of the Athletic Facilities renovations and expenditures. At the latest Board of Education meeting, we demonstrated our commitment to the improvement of Athletic Facilities as well as Joshua Dixon, CMS, and CHS buildings. In fact, we have spent $14million in facility upgrades over the past 14 years, including:

-New CMS roof
-CMS flooring
-CHS and CMS gym floor refinishing
-5 new boilers ($500,000)
-School Buses
-Locker Room Tile
-Athletic Scoreboard
-Security Improvements
-Window Replacements
-Firestone Stadium ($300,000)

We have identified over $5million in needed school repairs and upgrades in the 2025-2026 school year and approximately $3million in Athletic Facility improvements. As we presented in our October BOE meeting, identifying expenditures within the district as a whole is a very important first step to establishing a plan and timeline for improvement. The second step is prioritizing those expenditures. We recognize that the prioritization of these expenditures is relative to each family. It is our duty as a district to navigate within the realities of our budget and work on behalf of the district as a whole. As such, we have been working with our incredibly dedicated Board of Education, Administration, and Boosters team to secure naming rights and funding for Baseball and Softball Fields to be completed in the next year to year and half. We are following the same process for improvements that have been in place over the past 15 years. We want to be clear: the projects will be in progress ,and we plan to garner additional financial support to supplement the district's budget before we can present a solid construction timeline to the community. We want to express our gratitude to our families for their trust in this process that takes time to put in motion and will continue to provide updates as projects move forward.
