Joshua Dixon Families-This message is specifically for those picking students up at the end of the day. I would like to request that parents DO NOT make a second row for dismissal until we come out and move traffic up. Parents picking-up preschool students are not able to pull out of their parking spot once the 2nd row pulls up. I will have signage out as a reminder. I appreciate your understanding and cooperation. Mrs. Sharshan

Joshua Dixon Return Reminders: In-person education begins again on Tuesday, January 19, 2021. Please remember that there is NO SCHOOL on Monday, January 18, 2021. Arrival is still 8:55-9:10 a.m. Student drop-off is out front, and students are encouraged to exit cars all along the side walk. As to not block traffic on Salem St. or Stanton Ave., and especially to keep the alley clear for buses, traffic may be directed in the beginning. If your child has a school-owned device and they are returning in-person, please send back the Ipad or Chromebook on Tuesday. The 2nd grading period/1st semester ended today. Report cards will be coming home on Wednesday, January 27th instead of the original date of Friday, January 22nd. This will allow students ample time to complete and return all outstanding work. Those students remaining remote, will receive packets and instructions from their teachers. We hope everyone is looking forward to the return to school as much as we are. We miss the children and cannot wait to see their smiling faces. Happy New Year to All, have a great weekend and Welcome Back!

Joshua Dixon: Any families that requested breakfast and lunch during remote instruction may pick it up DAILY at Dixon from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Today's items are ready for pickup in the front lobby. Don't forget, this service is daily from 2:00-4:00 up to and including Friday, December 18th.

Dixon Families: The Dixon Office will be open normal hours from Tuesday, December 15, 2020-Friday, December 18, 2020. Feel free to buzz the front doors for packet pickup and/or giving tree gift drop-off. Many are familiar with the pick-up and drop-off of remote packets. The tubs are in the front entrance labeled with teacher names. Student packets will be in those tubs by the end of the day tomorrow for the remainder of the week, and as packets are completed they can be returned. Classroom teachers also have individual expectations that they will be sharing with families. Your continued understanding, patience, and support are so very appreciated. We are blessed to live in such a wonderful community. Have a great evening. Any questions, please email kim.sharshan@columbianaschools.org.

Joshua Dixon Families: Wanting to keep students and staff as healthy as we can heading into the holiday season, BEGINNING DEC. 7-18, we will be changing our learning platform from traditional in-person to HYBRID. Nothing will change for students that are currently all remote. From December 7-18, this is what the schedule will look like…
PRESCHOOLERS-attendance will remain as NORMAL.
Current REMOTE learners will continue to do what they already have in place using teacher provided packets and/or on-line materials. Whatever you already do, keep doing. This is strictly for those that are already REMOTE.
In order to increase social distancing, students currently in-person learning, will now be an Aviator or a Pilot. The schedule is below:
M and W Aviators IN-PERSON/Pilots REMOTE
T and TH Pilots IN-PERSON/Aviators REMOTE
*Friday December 11th Aviators IN-PERSON/Pilots REMOTE
*Friday December 18th Pilots IN-PERSON/Aviators REMOTE
*The Friday your child attends he/she is welcome to wear pajamas to celebrate our annual Polar Express Day!
EVERY TEACHER WILL BE IN CONTACT WITH THEIR CLASSES REGARDING SPECIFICS TO CURRICULUM AND CONTENT EXPECTATIONS.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support as we work our way through these extenuating circumstances together. Have a super evening.

The Dixon December/January Newsletter 20-21 has been emailed. You can also retrieve it from our webpage under documents in the newsletter folder https://5il.co/nflp
Please be sure you have installed the Clipper App. and checked to receive notifications, especially for Dixon and the District (directions are in the newsletter).

Joshua Dixon: A reminder that today is the Fall Fun Day Costume Procession at Dixon at 2:00. Optimistically speaking, there is only a 30% chance of showers, in the event that it is raining at 1:30 we will cancel and I will use this platform to alert parents. Spectators are Parents ONLY. Parents should park in the First Christian Church Lot or the Far Library Lot. Overflow can use the Dixon Side Lot, NOT THE FRONT LOT PLEASE. Parents can line up on the sidewalk in front of the Library. The sidewalk in front of Dixon is for the Students. As per our Columbiana County Health Dept. approved plan to have this event, parents need to return to their cars immediately following the procession. Students will enter the building and then parents can form the dismissal lines in the front lot. The Columbiana Police Dept. will be assisting with line up and the exiting of the lots especially the side lot due to buses entering. No parents can come into the building afterwards and NO STUDENTS WILL BE DISMISSED FROM THE PARADE-UNLESS WE RECEIVED A DR. APPT. NOTE THIS MORNING. Dismissal routine will be the same. Once again, thank you to those who get in line and have their children dismiss as car riders and not walkers that go to cars. If this is a continuing safety issue, walkers will be dismissed following the car line. Links are below to review our plans for today. Thank you and have a great weekend.

Dixon Parents of Car Riders: It was brought to my attention that due to cars blocking the entrance, exit, and alley during car rider dismissal, the patrons visiting the Public Library across the street are unable to pull in or out of the library parking lot. Perhaps coming in off Stanton to make a right into Dixon would be a better option. Your consideration while in the dismissal line is appreciated. Thank you.

The administration and staff at Joshua Dixon Elem. have worked hard to create a safe school environment, which includes our afterschool dismissal procedures. Please assist me in doing my job, which is to keep children safe, and teach them that rules matter. It is unfortunate that a notification must be sent again, because some families are continuing to park in various locations, and come to the entrance, telling their child to dismiss with the walkers, when in fact, they are not a walker at all. Students at Dixon are taught to follow the rules and hold themselves accountable. Asking them to not follow a rule is causing an internal struggle for many, and may have long-term effects for some. Beginning Monday, regular walkers will be dismissed. Those car riders coming up as walkers, will be called out following the line of traffic. The dismissal routine is in place for a reason and the children know the expectations. Any questions, please contact me 330-482-5355 ext. 34507. Thank you and have a great weekend. Mrs. Sharshan.

Joshua Dixon Reminder: Today is an EARLY RELEASE DAY! Dismissal times from the elementary are as follows:
Walkers 1:55
Car Riders 2:00
Bus Riders 2:05

Dixon Reminder: Say Cheese! Picture day for Kindergarten and First Grade is tomorrow, September 21, 2020. Preschoolers that attend on Mondays will have their picture taken tomorrow, and those that attend on Tuesday, September 22, 2020 will have their picture taken at that time, along with Second-Fourth Graders. Teachers sent specific class times to remote learners via instructional packets, teacher web-page, and digital reminders...Smile!

Dixon Families: Despite our continuously improving dismissal time, there is a concern with traffic blocking intersections. That said, Sgt. Boley and I are going to try and get 2-lines of traffic in the lot, and once stopped, load those vehicles, let them exit and bring in two more rows. It is our hope that this will mitigate the overflow of traffic by at least one row each time cars line-up. Your patience and understanding is much appreciated as we tread through dismissing this higher than normal percentage of car riders. Please remember that safety is our number one concern.

Joshua Dixon: This is a reminder to all families that are car riders OR walkers at the end of the day. Walkers are considered those students that physically walk home with someone and car riders are those students that get picked up and ride home in a car. The students understand this. The high-volume of traffic is moving steadily with the circulation time lessening daily. The current dismissal protocol is a safe process. It is very confusing, and some students are getting upset when they are told to leave with the walkers, when in fact, they are getting in cars parked in the side lot. The dangers of school dismissal are all too real and this is a major safety concern. Beginning tomorrow, same as last year, the side lot will be blocked off. Please, the children respect the process and understand what they are supposed to do at dismissal time. Car riders waiting at the flag pole will be dismissed after those following the dismissal routine.

Joshua Dixon: Due to ACCESS inadvertently assigning the same email password to multiple students, Dixon student emails have been temporarily disabled and students will be assigned a new password today. In-person learners will receive it from their teacher and remote learners will have the information in their instructional packet for pick-up. Families that already picked up a packet, can email your child's teacher for the new password. Your patience is appreciated.

Dixon:Dear Families, what an absolutely amazing first day of school. Our new arrival routine worked well. Your children did fantastic with masks, temperature taking, hand washing, lunch and recess. I am so proud of them! We will be making some internal changes to make pick-up smoother and faster. If you could please put the family car-card in the passenger window instead of the dash, that would be helpful. Thank you for understanding that many more parents are picking up this year and that this was our first day. Also, remember that if your child is remote, packet pick-up begins on Fri. prior to each upcoming week. If your work schedule does not allow pick-up during school hours, please call the office and we would be glad to place the packet outside in a container near the front doors. Please remember our new start time is 8:55 and 1st period begins at 9:10. Preschool and Kindergarten testing/screening will continue for the remainder of the week. Please use EXIT 10 doors. As always your patience, understanding, and continued support are extremely appreciated, especially as teachers work through having both in-person and remote learners. We are aware that some logons and usernames are not working. Our Technology Coordinator has been working with the folks that support that platform and if a new password is needed, we will get that to you once we hear from our support company. Again, much appreciation for your understanding as we work to put these new procedures and mandates in place. Thank you for sharing your children with us and have a super evening.

Joshua Dixon Families, My apologies that the link for the power point did not work properly. I have reset the presentation and hopefully this link will work. It is also in a folder under documents on the Dixon Web Page. Thank you for your understanding. I will also be working with the video editor to see why the video is not showing up. https://5il.co/k1dm
